Spiritual Sundays

and on the seventh day He rested.
While it is unlikely any of us will give up ALL activity on Sunday. Consider what things you do that make OTHERS work. If every Christian family decided they would ONLY go out for TRUE needs what impact would that have.
I spent many years working in retail. My grandmother would be very annoyed that I had to work Thanksgiving or any other holiday or Sunday. I asked her "Do you SHOP on those days?" The more you shop, the more other people's kids are working.

You can do some simple things to make it easier for others to rest on Sunday. Try to eat your meals at home on Sunday (also a good way to spend time with other friends), get some or all of your shopping done during the week and reward places that ARE closed on Sunday.
For me, that last one is very important. If you are choosing between Chik Fil A and Wendy's consider what it takes for a company to make that committment to it's people and morals. When you spend five cents more at Hobby Lobby versus Michael's you are making a moral statement. I completely understand why businesses feel they MUST be open Sunday (and Holidays) but I would love for my husband's work to make SO little money on Sunday that they didn't feel it was necessary.
So, this holiday weekend, when it may be hardest, consider voting with your pocketbook and putting your money where your morals are.
I guess I will just be thankful I found that chair YESTERDAY so Goodwill didn't get MY money on Sunday!

It is so true! My husband and I both work retail and we made the choice a long time ago not to work on Sunday. The pay is more on Sunday but the rewards are much better by staying at home and being able to go to church. It makes me sad when I see all of these family's doing sports on Sundays rather than church, and even more why do these soccer teams and other sport directors allow it. Thank-you for such a great post this week.

God Bless

It's fixed. It's easy to get that linky thing mixed up.
I remember when absolutely nothing was open on Sunday. Then one by one stores and service stations started staying open. It's sure handy when you need to run to the store for something, but I think it was better in the old days.
Thank you for sharing on spiritual Sundays.

I have always felt the same, I've had to work a lot of Sundays and holidays because people want to shop or eat. I try very hard not to shop on Sunday's. I remember when stores were closed on Sundays, it's a thing of the past. Thanks for the reminder, I enjoyed your post :).

Have a Blessed Sonday!

Hi there,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comments. Seriously all I did with the floors was vacuum them really really well, prime them and then paint them with Dutch Boy porch paint. No sealant necessary. They are looking great. In fact, I just did my husband's home office floor just like it. I hope that helps.

Hugs,
LeAnn:)

Blessings...This is so true! All of us are guilty of not honoring the seventh day of rest, when we cause others to have to work...and retail places have to be open, we are not honoring that REST! You are so right!
Here in Mexico, many places are closed but not gas, major retails or restaurants. Many close at 1 pm. and I try to prepare for this or wait for Mon. It is the same here with their focus being on sports on Sunday! That is perhaps more family oriented but not God honoring! Many
miss church for this reason and I'm sure God is saddened by this! A world that thinks of SELF more than
HIM or HIS WORLD! Thank you for sharing this in Spiritual Sunday!

Enjoy your day of rest and a week
now refreshed in Our Lord to serve!

So glad I happened upon you blog- I saw the title babystep and wondered if you had been in an FPU class then saw on your profile your mention of Dave Ramsey. My hubby and I facilitate the classes at different churches in the area and they are lifechanging. Am excited to read you blog and see what baby steps you are doing in your home!! I say it takes some real talent to make a beautiful home on a tiny budget- anyone can decorate if they have wads of dough (or more like high credit limits!! I am blessed to know my decorating is debt free!!) :) mary

Great food for thought. Growing up in Long Beach, I don't recall a time when everything was close, but I do remember many stores being closed. I will admit that it has been a long time tradition to go out to eat after church. Mostly because I don't want to cook on Sundays. I want to take my sweet little nap.

Thanks for your good Word!

I never eat out on Mothers Day, it really saddens me to think that the restaurant staff who are either mothers, or have mothers, aren't able to honor or be honored.
