Not perfect but HAPPY!

So the morning of Duncan's birthday....we were running late, and my DH hadn't gotten the stuff prepped for me to do pancakes.
I decided better to have good pancakes from a HAPPY mom, than pancakes made in a hurry. Nobody wants cranky-made cakes...am I right? So...we delayed until Saturday morning. You think he was happy enough with it?

His birthday was excellent with 26 people attending his late-planned party at the Golden Corral. He is one well-loved kid.

We also did Pancakes on Sunday, as I had the griddle out already! He thought his birthday was ALL WEEK, I think.

So make some imperfect, wrong day, whatever....but just do it with love and the smiles are worth it!

Chairs anew

Will blog the full makeover story later, but for now....here are my recovered rose-backs. I only suffered one STUPID self-stapling injury and they are much more cheerful now! I have acquired these two partial sets at yard sales. One had the lovely brown (did hide dirt well, note all the ugly grease stains)

The other was this blue print, which while not horrid wasn't ME. It did have LAYERS Of older colors underneat...I will share that later.

What do you think?

Happy Birthday, D-bear!

My son, Duncan, the boy of a million nick-names, turns 11 today. It is hard to believe I was not his mother 11 years ago. I haven't spoken much of Duncan on this blog, because it is mostly about my home and farm, but today I diverge.

Today will be a day of pancakes shaped like 1's (two of them), Mexican for lunch, a swim in the pool (his big b'day gift from many), dinner with family and even the Starbucks Barista he invited. He will be excited, he will tell everyone, he will laugh and even cry. I know he will cry, b/c he gets himself so worked up over things that he can't contain it. He will ask if Papa Tom is coming to his party and he will cry worrying that he might miss someone. He will talk my face off tomorrow, say "Boo" to strangers, tell at least one person to 'eat a bug' and surely make ME cry.

Today Duncan's body turns 11, his mind is still 3, his heart is older than all of ours and his mother is proud.

I could write a whole book on Duncan, and actually KNOW I will someday, but today I say Happy Birthday Fuzzy Muzzle, Doodle Bug, D'bear, Funky Monkey....I adore you.

Meet the "crew"

Okay so my silkies are three months old. They are getting big. Well this big is a relative term since they are a Bantam breed. So.....here they are.....
The guy in front looking poodlesque is PUFFY or P-silkie. :D Beside him is Eminem, Fergie, Li'l Kim and hiding is Missy Elliot.
In case you missed the reference I named Puffy b/c of his topknot, then we started calling him Puff Daddy (a rapper), then we had the tiny black one we were calling Li'l Kim (also a rapper) so I named the rest for rappers. It is quite possible Li'l Kim is actually KEN, but so be it!

Here is another photo (up close) of a very miffed Puffy. He is unhappy to have been captured and sitting in my truck getting his close up. He really doesn't look this mad in real life. It is quite the fitting thing since he is a rapper.
I think it may be that Puffy is the only one with decent feathering, but they are all cute. They are also completely unbothered by my dogs. The other chickens (much bigger) won't go in the back yard. The silkies take their afternoon nap under a tree IN the dog area. The standard poodle thinks Puffy will eat him, I think.

New to me

The Trifle dish (is that the right term) on my drop leaf here, was my great grandmother's. I took the photo right after Grandma gave it to me. It isn't fancy or probably valuable, but I love it. I have since filled it with rose potpourri, which smells lovely.
These pictures remind me that I need to get those chair seats redone in the fabric I chose MONTHS ago. It's about time, don't you think?
